Moloy Dey, is an Art College graduate. He always aspired for achieving a career that would give him creative freedom. He dreamt of becoming a fine artist, but also felt a strong urge for computer graphics and animation.

His life changed when he was offered a job by a well paying corporate company in computer graphics soon after completing his Masters in Visual Arts.

Moloy fell in love with the subject and started thinking, what can be done with computer graphics but he also realized that he was not the one who is going to take part in the rat race of corporate employment.

He regularly browsed the internet trends and aware of the advent of video. He noticed that businesses were looking forward to creating short videos to explain their product or services. Realizing the potential of that demand he quit his job in 2008 and launched his own company PixelGenio.com.

PixelGenio is all about creating amazing animated explainer videos for business concepts. They help businesses to explain their product or services to their customers in a very fun and interesting way…something, that people would like to engage to.

At the start, their biggest hurdle was that no one knew about them. They struggled about 3 years working on low budget freelance projects. His efforts enhanced the online presence of his website and enabled it to show up on Google searches. At present they have achieved a page rank of 2.

Moloy says:

At PixelGenio.com we prefer to keep it small so that we can focus on quality rather than on volume. I do not want PixelGenio to turn into corporate company with robots all around

We provide services to businesses all around the globe. With the advent of internet technologies like skype, gmail and FTP, we are able to maintain a very smooth communication with overseas clients.

With continuous improvement in online presence, they wish promote more reputed brands and can work towards creating amazing animated videos!

If you are in an era of animation reign, then you are probably watching an animated video or using some of those animated tools, or even probability, that is why you are reading this article now. As an animator, you may have various techniques to rely on and you may never decline to create a fancy animation.

But your budget becomes a constrainer. Nevertheless, the goal of making an explainer video is to convey a complex idea in simpler terms that’s as easy as pie.

To put in a nutshell, creating a 2D animation is as cooler as 3D. On the contrary, 3D animation is complicated to use.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. But, when they fall, they suffer a great loss. So make it simple to your context.

Before you begin producing a video, consider asking few questions to yourself

1. What is the purpose of the animation?
2. What kind of animation would meet your business branding?
3. When is your deadline?
4. Is it easy to make changes to animation?
5. Who are your audiences?
6. What do you want them to think when they watch it?
7. Does it comply with your marketing strategy?
8. How will you market your video?
9. Will it give a different perspective?

To be more specific in regard to the differences between 2D and 3D is the cost. Creating a 2D animation is much cheaper than producing a 3D animation. The reason is, 3D animation undertakes more process to complete, and hence it takes a lot of time. Apart from that, the software and tools used for making 3D animation are expensive.

Once your project reaches the jumping-off point, you need to decide based upon your budget, time and of course, on all aspects. After you fix on, you will have to follow the production pipeline, which refers to each step in production process. Apparently, the production process for 2D and 3D are not the same. The pipeline is, indeed, knotty for 3D animation. Whereas, you will carry out simpler production pipeline for 2D. Less work is required in the 2D pipeline. All you have to do is draw frames and sketch characters. You don’t need more materials. The animation becomes simple with few frames, but it looks great on 2D. But, 3D has many parts to be handled. It goes through various levels; each level may be taken care of experts.Even if you want to make some iteration, it is not an easy task to start from the scratch.

“The biggest problem with 3D, though, is the “convergence/focus” issue. A couple of the other issues — darkness and “smallness” — are at least theoretically solvable. But the deeper problem is that the audience must focus their eyes at the plane of the screen,” quotes Walter Murch, the most respected film editor and sound designer in the modern cinema. The statement here he makes is that people take a lot of time to realize what the story is when it is a 3D. The brain takes time to generate and read the images. It gives one-point perspective to the image.

So, a 60 second explainer video need not be 3D. Make it simple and neat, so as to make the audience prepare what they want to know.

The major drawback of 3D is that, it does not give flexibility to think beyond the scope. The main idea of an explainer video is to put complex plan into a simpler form. Although, quite few people consider 3D to be better than 2D, the result accomplished when creating an animated video is the same. So, it will not be apt to fund more time and money in composing a complex idea into even more complex design.

The conclusion may seem to satisfy the features and advantages of 2D, albeit never underestimate the power of 3D.

“The wait is all over” How long do you think someone will have enough patience to watch a lengthy explainer video? 5 minutes? 4 minutes? How about 3 minutes? 2? No. Make it 60 seconds.

“The wait is all over” How long do you think someone will have enough patience to watch a lengthy explainer video? 5 minutes? 4 minutes? How about 3 minutes? 2? No. Make it 60 seconds. Now, you may wonder how that is possible to make a 60 second video. The truth is you do not have enough time. Your clock is ticking. But don’t rush! You cannot sell out unfinished stories. Your script should sell out your story on what you want to convey in 60 seconds.

Losing patience is not the only reason; your audience will have many reasons to close your video. But what a 60 second video can make it special? Here are some of the main reasons:

Keep it short and simple

Make sure your video does not give any troubles for your users to remember the entire video. Most of the lengthy explainer videos do not create any impact on the audience. They do not get instilled in the minds of an audience. The brain does not decide to take too many visuals in mind. So a short explainer video makes it simple for the users to bear in mind what the idea is all about.

A matter of time

It’s only a matter of time. You cannot brag about something for so long. Nobody is willing to listen to it. So be time conscious. Indeed, it is difficult to highlight features of your product in few seconds, that’s why we rely on experts to make the script more creative, useful, informative, and worth watching in a minute.

Video Analytics

In a recent report from Wistia, the video tracking data revealed that an average 30-second video was viewed by 85%, while the average 2-minute video was viewed on average 50%. That is a deep difference between the percentage watched for a short and a long video. Thus, a short video is being watched by more people than for a longer video. If you have a short video, you are more likely to have 85% of the viewers.

Attention Span

On an average, out of a 60-second video, a viewer is likely to watch only 42 seconds. So if you create 120 seconds of a video, the probability is that viewer might skip as much as the content and only 70% would remain in their minds, which is the same as a 60-second video. As a result, a lot of content is being wasted.

Reach-out

YouTube accepts a length of 15 minutes video, but shorter videos get more shares and likes than the longer videos. If your video is short, people either watch it until the end, or don’t watch it at all. Besides that, it does not reach the right audience. Make sure your content is attention grabbing, so that people stick to the video until the end.

Not your life story

People aren’t expecting an entire life story. They only need the idea behind the screens. Ultimately, your video should call to action. Use creativity as your call.

Animated videos give a chance to tell your story. In 60-seconds you will need more action to take place, just as the name implies, animated videos generate more actions. Don’t cast incomplete pieces of information; rather put it straight to the script.

Don’t get lost

Lengthy videos tend to convey a message while watching, but in the end users get lost. Not even 40% content would bear in their mind. This means that only less than 50% users set off traffic.

Too many information

You know what happens when you give too much unnecessary information in a single video- people either get confused or misinterpret the information. Your consumption audience shouldn’t get a wrong idea of the product or brand.

Short videos are wildly popular over Social media

Looks like Vine and Instagram were made just for that. Although, they can be used only on mobile, they are being shared virally. Vine was the first mobile app introduced to create shorter videos in six seconds. These are shorter to view and upload. They give a different viewing experience than the old fashioned videos.

Pitch

A 60-second video won Susan Brenna the 2011 Grand Prize. American Express and Tribeca Film Festival teamed up to create a contest where anyone could create a 60-second film pitch. Veteran film makers would judge the pitches and select a winner. Although, Susan Brenna’s video was simple, she had her story idea conveyed properly, straight to the viewers’ expectations.

Understanding the relation between the audience engagement and the length of the video will ensure you that you are getting more audience and your audience is getting more of your videos.
